Does App Academy accept the GI bill or VETTEC for tuition?

App Academy is currently unable to accept the GI bill or VETTEC as methods of tuition payment. Many of our veterans select our Deferred Tuition plan to postpone tuition payments until after job placement.

What tuition plans are available for the Full-Time Coding Bootcamp?

Upfront Tuition: Pay the full tuition amount prior to starting your chosen bootcamp. Total Cost: $15,900.

Month-to-Month Tuition: Pay a monthly tuition installment for the duration of your bootcamp - 6 months. Total Cost: $18,000 ($3,000/month).

‍Deferred Tuition (powered by Climb Credit): Make monthly payments (principal + interest) towards your tuition, beginning 18 months after you start your bootcamp. Total Cost: $23,150 + interest. Estimated Monthly Payment Range: $927-$1,174.*

‍Financed Tuition (powered by Climb Credit): Make low monthly interest-only payments towards your tuition for the first 18 months when you start your bootcamp, then make monthly combined payments (principal + interest) thereafter. Total Cost: $23,150 + interest. Interest-Only Monthly Payment Range (Months 1-18): $198 - $421.* Interest + Principal Monthly Payment Range (Months 19-54): $782 - $913.*

‍*Climb Credit: You may qualify for different terms, based on your credit score. As of July 2024, APRs range from 11.79% - 22% for a fully deferred loan and 9.79% - 21% for an interest-only loan. Subject to change based on market trends.

Does App Academy offer a living stipend?

Students who select our upfront tuition option can apply through our partner, Climb, for a living stipend up to $8,500. Please reach out to your Admissions Specialist for more information on applying for the living stipend.

What sets App Academy apart is that we invest ourselves fully in your success. If you select our Deferred Tuition plan, you will not be charged any tuition until 18 months after you start your bootcamp.

This forces us to be extremely thoughtful about every step of our student journey, from the way we structure our admissions process, to the way we determine what to teach and how to teach it. Every piece is affected by our investment in you.

Here is a quick breakdown:

Admissions: Because we offer both Deferred and Financed Tuition plans (powered by Climb Credit), we have a much wider applicant pool to select from, allowing us to accept students based on merit and not how much they can pay. This process is essential to the strength of our student body and makes it possible for us to teach more in-depth and at a faster pace than other programs.

Curriculum: Our #1 goal at App Academy is to provide you with the skills to get a job as a software developer. To achieve this, we are constantly evolving our curriculum to ensure that the skills you learn are the most relevant and valuable in the industry. Some of these topics have been determined over our 10 years of placing students, while others have evolved through conversations with top hiring partners such as Google, Uber, and others. We make continuous updates to ensure our curriculum teaches the top skills companies are looking for in candidates.

Job Search: Unlike other bootcamps, our Deferred and Financed Tuition plans come with Placement Protection. This means that if you don't get a job as a software engineer, the tuition for the bootcamp is free. Therefore, when you graduate, you can trust that we will do everything in our power to get you the best job offer possible. Regardless of tuition plan, we strive to help you find long term and meaningful job placement. To improve your candidacy we teach not only hard skills, but soft interviewing and interpersonal skills as well. We help with interview prep, salary negotiation, and provide you with our alumni network at the best companies in the world.

Who should I reach out to with questions regarding tuition repayment?

If you are a graduate of our program and have been prompted to create an account with Knowledge Finance, you can find answers to many frequently asked questions, along with contact details for their support team, directly in the Knowledge Finance portal. All other graduates can reach out to App Academy’s Finance department (finance@appacademy.io) with questions regarding their specific tuition repayment.

What computer hardware is required to attend the full-time bootcamp?

General Info

You will need access to a computer (not a tablet or chromebook) with strong internet connection as well as a webcam and microphone. Your computer will need to use, Apple’s OS X operating system (from at least 2010), Windows 10, or a variant of Linux such as Debian or Ubuntu. We now support Ubuntu on Windows 10 using the Windows Subsystem for Linux.

What type of student gets accepted?

App Academy does not require specific technical proficiencies for admission to our bootcamp. A successful applicant is highly motivated, disciplined, and has clear & strong convictions for transitioning to a career as a software engineer. Our bootcamps contain students from varying professional backgrounds, ethnic/cultural and gender/sexual representations, age groups, and coding experience levels.

What are the steps in the admissions process?

Admissions Steps:

1. Submit application (takes about 10 minutes to complete)
Provide us with information about your background, where you are at in your decision process and why you feel App Academy is a good fit for you.

2. Admissions Survey (given 60 minutes to complete)
With the survey, we'll ask you 20 questions that will help us measure your your current logical reasoning, pattern recognition and web development skills. This survey is not based on a pass or fail grading system. Rather we'll use your results to be able to better guide you to your next step.

3. Code-Along Project - requirement varies (takes 30-40 minutes on average to complete)
For those asked to complete the project, you’ll be creating a to-do list app using basic Javascript. We provide you with all the resources you’ll need to be successful, including a step-by-step, walk-through video.

4. Non-Technical Interview (takes about 30 minutes to complete)
You’ll answer a series of questions and we'll assess your professionalism, passion for coding, resiliency and work ethic, etc. during this asynchronous online interview. Most applicants will be invited for a second interview if they do not pass on their first attempt.

Acceptance & Enrollment
Once you've passed the Non-Technical Interview, you’ll officially be accepted to App Academy. Then you'll work with your Admissions Specialist to select a payment plan, complete your paperwork & enroll in your desired bootcamp.

Our Full-Time Coding Bootcamp is a fully-online immersive program (Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm Pacific time). It includes guided lectures, live pair programming, white-boarding, career and job placement services, and more. The program is 24 weeks long to help ensure you have enough time to learn the material and be job-ready.

Can I reapply if rejected?

What is the bootcamp schedule like? What is the time commitment required outside of class?

General Info

Classes are hosted live, via Zoom, Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. PST. Most students spend a further 20-30 hours outside of class finishing up homework, preparing for weekly assessments, and working on projects. So all-in-all, this bootcamp requires a total of about 60-70 hours/week.

Keep in mind, this intensive schedule will ensure you are job ready by the time you graduate.

Can I still enroll at App Academy if I am not a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident?

Yes. If you are not a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, you are eligible to enroll in either of App Academy’s bootcamps under the Upfront Tuition or Month-to-Month Tuition plan.

What is App Academy's Criminal Conviction Policy?

General Info

Students must be able to pass any background checks associated with jobs they apply for upon graduation from the bootcamp. If a student fails to obtain a job offer directly or partially due to their failure to pass the background check associated with the job offer, they will not be eligible for any Placement Protection. Placement Protection is available to learners under our Deferred Tuition and Financed Tuition plans. App Academy reserves the right to re-verify Student’s eligibility at any time within the course and during the Eligible Period. Applicants who provide App Academy with false or incorrect information in regards to their criminal conviction will forfeit their ability to be eligible for Placement Protection and their enrollment agreement will be voided.
